  1. 1) Some values that the book's society embrace and encourage are that they have alot of rules and that whenever there is a ceremony they take that as a celebration.
    2) Interdependece is a relation between its members such that each is mutually dependent on the others.
    3) The difference between loss and release are that when you are released you are sent elsewhere but with the loss that means that somebody had or has passed away and they are sayin there last goodbye's. I think that the author is tryin to tell us that there is a real big difference between loss and release.
    4) The author build's the interest in jonas's ceremony of twelve by stating some of the things that will come once he becomes 12. For example, one is that they will consider him as an adult and more mature.

    2. Hey Gabby, I like how you answered all your questions and how you stared. You also gave an example for question 4 you said that they will consider him as an adult and more mature which is true because now he will become 12 and he also is going to get a new assignment.Lastly, I like how you describe the different s of loss and release. Those two worlds are important to know in this kind of community that Jonas and his family are living.

  3. 1:The values advocated and embraced by the society in the book are "sameness" and control. Every aspect of the people's lives are controlled, even down to their emotions. They are given pills in order to suppress their emotions. The idea of everyone being 'equal' in a sense, makes for the 'sameness', which is bad because it doesn't allow a sense of individuality. The idea of family is destroyed based on the system of control.

2:Interdependece is a relation between its members such that each is mutually dependent on the others. When I see the news I see how the army helps one a nother go through battles. Also I see how my mom and dad help each other take care of me and my brother.

3:Release literally means death in Jonas's community, however before Jonas discovers the true identity of release, it means being sent out of the community. While Loss literally means a person who is dead before being released, or a child being lost in the river, as explained on chapter 4.I think the author talks about this because he wants as to know the differends of released and loss in this community.

4:The author build's the interest in jonas's ceremony of twellve because that is were Jonas's is going to get his new assignment. In the story it stated "At the Ceremony of Twelve, Jonas is given the highly honored Assignment of Receiver of Memory. The Receiver is the sole keeper of the community’s collective memory. Also now he is consider an adult and more mature.

    1. Hey Natalie, I agree with you because even if the community have to agree to all this rules you have to obey or they will be realeased and its their chose to stay or leave. Like Jonas' he is turning twelve and needs to be more like an adult and if he doesn't want to and like I said its hes chose to leave or stay.

      P.S GO "GIANTS"! OH YEAH!

  7. #1 The values that they embrace is that if the newborn does not grow well they will be released out of the community.Another rule that they follow alot is the volunteer hours when you turn eight.

#2 Interdependence is dependence between two or more people. This would be like if you are in a relationship with another person then you would want to be independent when you have a discussion with that person.

#3 Loss is when that person dies, which is rare in their community because they were very healthy. Release is when you no longer belong to that community.

#4 She bulds interes because she gives that suspense meaning that she keeps talking about the ceremony but waits a little longer so we would be anxious to hear what his assignment would be.
