The Giver-Lois Lowry Chapter 9 & 10

ASSIGNMENT for the weekend...

Vocabulary: Please define each vocabulary word AND give a synonym for each in your Giver Workbook.

    1.To me it feels good to be different because your a unique person.It is a new sensation for Jonas because in his twelve years of life he felt seperate.The people moved aside for him. They watched him and showed him respect.

    2.Jonas have to go immediately at the end of school hours each day to the annex entrance behind the house of the old and present himself to the attendant
    -He have to go immediately to his dwelling at the conclusionof Training hours each day.
    -He cannot discuss his training with any other member from the community.
    -Jonas is able to lie.
    -And he is not permitted to apply for release
    -He connot aply for any medication.The rules are puzzling to him because he was stunned. Jonas was also worried because he wanted to figure out what will happen to his friendships,his mindless hours playing ball,or either riding his bike along the river.

    Jonas noticed that in each dwelling tonight they would studyingthe instructions for the beginning of their training.and he have to go immediately to his dwelling at the conclusion of training hours each day.

    4.It will involve lots of work,business and commitment.It is important to save the memories because you keep everything in your mind or in a file even if ur memories are good, bad, sad, happy, watever it is.You can always keep it with you. Even when you lost someone and you want to keep them close.You will have a picture of them or know more about there life because you saved the memories.

    1. To me its good to be different because if you did something wrong in your life or need someone to notice you, then you change and leave that old selve in the past. For Jonas a new sensation has taking him because Jonas felt separated, different. In the beggining of chapt 9 it says "He remembered what the chief Elder had said: that his training would be alone and apart. The training have not start and he feels apartness. Others in community treat him with respect because he got special job of Receiver of memmory and thats important job in the community.

    2. Jonas' instructions for his Receiver training is:
    *Go immediately at the end of school hours each day to the Annex
    entrance behind the house of the old and present yourself to the
    attendant.
    *Go Immediately to your dwelling at the conclusion of training
    hours each day.
    *You are are exempted from rules governing rules and ask any
    questions of any citizen and you will receive answers.
    *Do not discuss your training with other member of the community
    or parents and Elders
    *Prohibited from dream-telling.
    *illness or injury unrelated to your training, do not apply for
    any medication.

    * You may Lie.
    This rules puzzled Jonas because he was stunned because he was taught not to do these things as kids like you may lie or exempted from rules and governing rudeness, this rules told him that he could do it. This shocked him, what kind of job is this?

    3.Jonas' was amazed when he entered Receiver of memmory's dwelling like the doors were locked in the community and it was for his privacy. When he hurried through door he found himself in living area like he's own home. Also he saw tons of books on shelfs that Jonas' had ever seen and some he had never known existed.

    4.Jonas' position as Receiver of Memmory's is training hard, work, and memmory. Its important to save momories because you keep everything in your mind like your family or loss of people you loved a long time ago that you adored alot. Even though those memories were harsh in your life, sad or maybe happy. Its important to keep them inside your mind even though you have picture or letter from them, you will still adore them in your memmories.

I like how you answer your question than explain it.Also you went back to the text and gave good text support for your answer.Lastly,for question 2 you gave many instructions for his Receiver training which is good and also important to know about.

    1:In my opinion it feels grate to be different because The world would be boring if we were all the same.AlsoIt's good to be different because if you weren't different, you'd be the same. Do you really want to be the same as everybody else? You are different for a reason and the reason is this: Everybody is different in their own way, even though it might seem that some people aren't, they are, they just haven't figured out exactly who they are, so they copy somebody else because they're afraid to show their true self, but if you are "different", that just means that you do know who you are and you know exactly what you believe in and you should stick to it. So that's why it's good to be different. It is a new sensation for Jonas at the start of Chapter 9 because he is gaining the experience of the sensations. He also gains the ability to read and keep books around. In addition he will be allowed privacy.People treat him differently now, like he is special.

    2:Jonas is given these rules to follow:

    1. Go immediately at the end of school hours each day to the Annex entrance behind the House of the Old and present yourself to the attendant

    2. Go immediately to your dwelling at the conclusion of Training Hours each day

    3. From this moment you are exempted from rules governing rudeness. You may ask any question of any citizen and you will receive answers

    5. From this moment you are prohibited from dream-telling

    6. Except for illness or injury unrelated to your training, do not apply for any medication

    -The rules are so puzzling to him because he cant go to school and he also never lie before in his life and one of the rules are that he got to lie.

    4:Jonas' position as Receiver of Memory will involve work,braveness,and business also smartness. According to the novel, however, memory is essential. The Committee of Elders does recognize the practical applications of memory,if you do not remember your errors, you may repeat them,so it designates a Receiver to remember history for the community. But as Jonas undergoes his training, he learns that just as there is no pain without memory, there is also no true happiness.

      I agree with you because this is big job for Jonas' and needs to be apart with his training and he is puzzed with this job like the rules that have kind of negative things that he he needs to obey.

    1. Its good to be different being different makes people look at you as a leader not a follower.And also u wouldnt want to be the same as people.That wouldnt be a good choice.

    2.Jonas rules to follow- To go immediately to his dwelling at the conclusion of Training hours each day.

    3.Jonas was stunned when he entered the recievers of ceremony dwellings.He had his own space were no one will interupt him.He was loving that.He was living in a place like home.

    4.Jonas position as a reciever of memory is hardworking.Its important to keep everything in memory because it can be bad or good and when you look back at them times you be like thats crazy.And somethings thegood things will make you smile.

    1.Sometimes I like to be different because everybody don't have the same look,style,and you are not the same from everybody.I feel great to be different.For Jonas the new sensation is that he is the receiver of memory.The other people treat Jonas with respect now.

    1.Instead of feeling left out you feel like if you are better than anyone else. It’s the type feeling I have because I am Hondurian/Guatemalan and everyone else is nearly the same. He has the feeling like everyone is counting on him and the chief elder said that he will now be apart from everyone else. Now they make room for him when he passes by. People stand up when he comes.
    2.His rules were:

    c) He will not have to follow the rules of rudeness. He may ask any question and receive an answer.
    d) He may not tell what happened at training.

    The rules are puzzling to him because now he will lie, he cannot talk to anyone about his training.
    3.It is the same as his dwelling. It is like his room.
    4.He will have the memories of others. He will have to save the memories of other people out of the community.

    1) To feel different is like being you, I do not like being like everone else I like to be ME, it is awesome to be different so be it.
    It a new sensation for Jonas at the start of Chapter 9 because he is gaining the experience for the job also it is someing new for him.
    Others people now treat Jonas like he deserve like a men, he work for what he wants. I will treat Jonas like a man he earned it.

Being a receiver of memory is a hard work because you have all the money of the community.It is important to save the memories because you have something to remember from and see what when to it who when to it and how we when to it.

    The rules were puzzling to him because he is told not to do some of the rules all his life when he was young and all of a sudden since he has this new assignment he can do somethings that he couldn't do before so he is shocked.

I think it feels good to be different because you have your own ways and own things that you do better than everyone else. you can be better then other people in sports, or activities.The world would be boring if everyone were good at everything. The sensation for jonas at the begining of chapter 9 was that he is becomeing a grown up and now everyone is counting him. They treat him with respect because he becoming a elder.

Jonas instructions for his reciever training is that he has to go immediately to his dwelling at the xonclusion of training hours each day, he cannot discuss his training with anyone in the community, he also cannot apply for relase. It is puzzling to him because all the things that he's not suppose to do, he can do.

    3. He noticed that he would every night he would need his privacy tostudy the training.

    4. he job would involve hard working citizenship and bravness. It is important to keep your memories because if someone in your family had past away you would remeber all the good times you had with him or her.
